Bio: SmArt Designs, supporting consumer education through creative, professional marketing tools. Company: Started in 1999 with one home-based entrepreneur. Now, I work with a freelance graphic artist and hundreds of suppliers! Function/How Started: Create and market personalized promotional products I wanted to come up with a creative way to promote my new real estate business. I also have several years’ experience working in consumer and residential lending – counseling and originating mortgage loans. I didn’t want to sell real estate, but I did want to be involved in consumer education. . So, I started designing teaching aides that could be tailored to the finance industry; and SmArt Designs was born. Naturally, I picked an industry that I understood well. Thus, came an idea for a portable, plastic mortgage table that was easy to use and didn’t require any figuring or calculating; I would do the work myself. Its sturdy design makes it a great promotional giveaway at trade shows, seminars and fairs. Although the concept itself is not new, its unique design (like a wheel) caught on and was soon marketed to mortgage and home buying organizations. I'm proud to have a continued business relationship with NVAR of Northern Virgini - as they were my first client. Motto: We know it’s not always “what you say, but how you say it” that makes an impression on consumers. Working one-on-one with the professional client, we can design an effective, personalized advertising tool that will grab the attention of the consumer. For instance, when a client requests business cards, we recommend that something useful be added to the other side, like a calendar or tip chart. It’s great for the mathematically challenged and never gets tossed (I can’t say how often friends try and steal mine when dining out)! We’ll get your items for that trade show or sales meeting, too.
