Bio: Having lived in Atlanta for over 40 years, I have seen dramatic changes in the landscape of the Metro Area. In the sixties the interstate highways were primarily 4 lanes, two northbound and two southbound. Today they are anywhere from 6 to 12 lanes. The metro area in the sixties consisted of about a 20 mile radius from downtown where today that radius is about 40 miles and consists of over 5 million residents. Approximately half of the population of Georgia lives in the Metro Atlanta area and it continues to grow. Several recent reports have listed Atlanta as one of the best major metropolitan areas in the United States to live in as real estate prices in Atlanta are quite favorable. You really do get a lot of house for the money and the real estate taxes are not overbearing. Atlanta is a fantastic area to live in and raise a family. Whether your interests are sports, the arts and museums, shopping or just leisurely walks in the park; there are always extracurricular actives to participate in. When our son was growing up, my wife and I would try to take at least one day trip monthly to the various attractions in the area. Being a history buff I particularly enjoyed the outings to the Cyclorama and Stone Mountain Park and learned more about the Civil War and the Battle of Atlanta. Of course we all enjoyed taking in a Braves, Falcons, or University of Georgia game. In November of 2005 the new Georgia Aquarium opened and we were anxious to visit it. We were able to get tickets in January and visited with my wife’s brother and his family from Tennessee.
